Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 August 2026 ยท Last updated: 17 August 2026

Lea is a reading tracker and focus app. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Lea mobile application (the App).

Lea does not require an account, and we do not operate a server or cloud database that stores your bookshelf, reading history, reading notes, name, or cover photos. That information stays on your device unless you choose to export or share it. Some App features do, however, send limited information to third-party service providers as described below. Those transfers count as data collection even though Lea has no user-account database.

1. Who is responsible for Lea

Lea is operated by VISTE LTD, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 13232923, with its registered office at 87 Chancery Lane, Third Floor, A&T, London, United Kingdom, WC2A 1ET (Lea, we, us, or our).

For privacy questions or requests, contact support@leareads.com.

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction using the concept of a data controller, the operator named above is the controller of personal data processed through the App, except where a third-party provider acts as an independent controller.

2. Information kept only on your device

The App stores the following information locally on your device so its features can work:

This information is stored in the App's private local storage, including a local SQLite database. We cannot view or retrieve it from your device.

You can erase this information using Erase everything in the App. Uninstalling the App will normally remove its private local data, subject to your operating system's backup and restore behavior.

3. Camera, system pickers, notifications, and device settings

The App uses device access or an operating-system picker only when needed for a feature you choose to use:

You can deny or revoke requested permissions in your device settings, although the related feature may then be unavailable. Choosing an item through a system picker does not grant Lea ongoing access to your photo library or files.

4. Information sent to third-party services

Book search: Google Books and Open Library

When you search for a book, scan a spine, or scan/enter an ISBN, the search text, text recognized from the spine, or ISBN is sent directly from your device to Google Books. For an ISBN lookup that does not produce an exact Google Books result, the ISBN may also be sent to Open Library. These providers receive the request and standard network information, such as your IP address, and return book metadata and cover links. Lea does not send your bookshelf, reading history, notes, or photos with these requests.

The returned book information may be cached locally on your device. Google and the Internet Archive/Open Library handle information under their own policies:

Purchases: Apple, Google, and RevenueCat

Lea uses RevenueCat to offer and verify in-app purchases and subscriptions. RevenueCat is initialized with an automatically generated anonymous App User ID; Lea does not give RevenueCat your name or email address. RevenueCat may receive device type, operating-system information, last-seen time, subscription status, product and transaction information, and an Apple receipt or Google purchase token. Apple or Google processes your payment details. We do not receive your full payment-card or bank-account information.

These services handle information under their own policies:

Contacting support

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include. Please do not send a Lea backup or sensitive reading notes unless they are necessary for your request and you are comfortable sharing them.

5. How and why we use information

Depending on where you live, our legal bases for processing are:

We do not sell personal information. We do not use personal information for targeted advertising or track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. We require service providers processing personal data on our behalf to provide the same or an equivalent level of protection described in this Policy and required by applicable law, to process it only on our documented instructions, and not to use it for their own advertising or unrelated purposes.

6. Retention

Because Lea has no account system, we may need an anonymous service identifier or transaction details to locate information held by a service provider. In some cases, we may not be able to link remotely held anonymous data to you without information from your device.

7. International data transfers

Our providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. RevenueCat, Apple, Google, and the Internet Archive may process information internationally. Where required, we rely on recognized safeguards such as adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses, or providers' participation in an approved data-transfer framework.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal data; to restrict or object to processing; to withdraw consent; and to appeal or complain to a privacy regulator.

Most Lea content is under your direct control because it exists only on your device. You can edit it in the App, export it using the backup feature, or remove it using Erase everything. For information processed by us or our providers, contact support@leareads.com. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify and fulfill your request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you may lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue.

9. Children

Lea is a general-audience reading tool and is not designed specifically for children. Lea does not ask for a date of birth and does not require an account. If a user is not old enough under the law where they live to make their own privacy choices, a parent or legal guardian should make those choices for them and supervise their use of the App. If you believe we have processed a child's personal data without the authorization required by law, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

10. Security and data loss

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the information. No device or transmission method is completely secure. Because your core Lea data is local, its security also depends on your device passcode, operating-system security, and how you handle exported backups.

Lea does not provide cloud recovery for your bookshelf or reading history. If your device is lost, damaged, reset, or the App is deleted, your information may be unrecoverable unless you created a backup.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Lea's features, providers, or legal obligations change. We will update the date above and, where required, provide additional notice in the App or through the store listing. Material changes will apply prospectively unless the law permits otherwise.
